Carlton B grabs the Carton B Division title in style

Carlton B Sports Club emerged as overall champions in the B Division Finals Carlton Basketball Championship 2011 Tournament by beating the Old Peterites by 77 points to 63 in yesterdays encounter played at the Police Park Basketball Courts.
Carlton BC winning the jump ball of the match could not make to score the first points in the match. Lakshan Smarasinghe of the Old Peterites managed to grab the first points for his team by scoring off two free throws. In reply Captain Dammika Perera took control of the home team ball and scored two baskets consecutively to take the early grip of the match. With less than 2.35 minutes to go in the first play of the match Hiran sunk a well timed three pointer. Power Center Rashmika came in handy for the home team as he managed to score a total of 06 points for his team mates with his assists. At the end of the first quarter the scores were in favor of Carlton BC. (19-13)
Carlton BC was extra hard with their defense within the first 3 minutes of the second quarter as the Peterites were struggling to get points on the board. Captain Dammika spot on with his shot selection managed to nail his first three pointer of the match with 3.56 minutes to go in the match. In reply Aaron Francis for the Old Peterites also returned to the scoring sheets with a well executed three pointer bringing the scores to 35-25. Dammika once again leading by example helped Carlton extend their lead with three more points. With just couple of seconds to go in the second quarter Hiran Wijesuriya advanced into the opponents territory with a fast break and brought the scores to a standstill of 36- 29 in favor of the home team at the end of half time.
The deciding quarter of the match proved to be disastrous for the Old Peterites, as they could not bring their act together even till the 04th minute of the 03rd quarter. Capitalizing on the weak point of the Peterites the Carlton players worked the ball right across the court giving them a hard time in getting possession of the ball to secure points. Dammika opened the scoring for the quarter and was ably followed by Shashrika Pussegolla with a fast break to score two more points. Sudesh Paira and Lakshan Samarasinghe continued scoring for the Old Peterites eventhough the rest of the team mates could not find easy points. With one minute to go in the third quarter Hiran Wijesuriya taking control of the ball was ably assisted by Rashmika and Thivanka for consecutive points off fast breaks. At the end of the third quarter Carlton led the match by 61 points to 38.

Carlton pulls off a Thriller

Carlton BC advanced into the finals of the Carlton Basketball Championship 2011 by defeating the Navy BC by just one point in a nail biting encounter. The Match was played at the Police Basket Ball Courts. The Final scores of the match were 63-62.
Both teams started the match in a slow atmosphere as both were scoring baskets one against another in a very slow manner. Thus the first quarter of the match proved to be very dull as both teams were looking to settle down rather than scoring quick points. Carlton lead 10 – 9 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter of this deciding match brought back some momentum into the game as both teams started to score quick points with a lot of assists and steals. As a result Carlton Club and Navy BC managed to score a quick succession of 21 and 14 points consecutively in the second half of the match itself. At half time Carlton led the game by 32 points to 26.
Carlton BC record 4th Consecutive Win

The 43rd match of the Carlton Basketball Championship was played off earlier today between Carlton BC and Old Bens BC. The match concluded with Carlton once again cruising through comfortably with 68 points as opposed to Old Bens 51.
The match was held at the Police Basketball court.
Carlton got off to a head start by winning the jump ball; however they could not capitalize on it as they missed two opportunities of scoring early on. This was followed by a foul by Carlton which helped Old Bens put on the first points on the Board.
Carlton advances to the top spot
Another match in the Cartlon Basketball Championship 2011 was worked off today between the The Colombo Basketball Club vs the Wattala Club at the Police Park. Colombo easily beat the Wattala side with 64 points to 43 at the end of the match.
Colombo took complete control of the match from the first minute itself as they restricted the Wattala from scoring any points until the 08th minute of the first quarter. They were all over the court as many fumbles were committed by the entire Wattala opening side.
As a result at half- time the score read 28-17 in favour of Colombo.
